Welcome to the JMDesigns web design Portfolio!
"Project Griselda" - A First Attempt at Web Design
I have been learning a lot towards designing a website. For one thing, I learned you can design the basic layout of a website- be it a blog, an online store, a message board, a personal website, etc.- all as a big image. You can then slice that image into individual parts to make it a website. However, I also learned you can simply do the layout and then have somebody else do the actual coding (HTML, CSS, PHP, Bootstrap, etc.).
I needed loads of motivation to try to develop a website I hope I could possibly offer online for download and/or sale. The first attempt of mine to develop any kind of website was through making a personal website. You can not simply just have a website idea in mind and then haphazardly make all kinds of graphic touches. It helps to have a basic sketch of what kind of website you plan to design. Over time, you will improvise your vision and make several edits until you come up with something you think will be your final product. A lot of people who develop websites map out their vision using Photoshop. Of course, you can use other programs such as GIMP (which I use) and Gravit Designer among many other programs. On the coding front, you could simply use almost any text editor. It is recommended you use some programs like Notepad++ or Bluefish- both of which are completely free.
The thing I struggled with early on is to envision the dimensions of whatever site I am trying to develop. I even went to the current layout of my blogs to think about what dimensions I want to use to lay out the different elements of my website template. Once I figured that out, I began to put together my early template. I originally went with an image of about 1024x3000. After I did a lot of my editing, I went from imagining my website had padding to expanding the canvas from 3000px height to 4000px height. A lot of my time was spent on the graphical aspects. Initially, I wanted to use Gravit Designer to develop vector graphics for the site. I thought otherwise and only focused on using GIMP for building a site layout.
