A Novice Cook
I always had a unique and experimental sense of cooking. I was never formally trained to cook, so all I went by were online videos and blog posts, This was to begin drawing confidence to have more concentrated interest in cooking.
Around late September 2021, I tried coming up with some sort of butter-based dips. The flagship flavor combined butter with garlic and Parmesan cheese. My recipes didn't become true dips until I added table cream. I initially planned on making videos showcasing my dip recipes. However, I ditched those plans and simply had them just to use for when I melted butter.
It wasn't until late December 2021 when I finally had the courage to use my mother's air fryer and toaster oven to prepare food. This gave me a new interest in making meals using mostly an air fryer. In 2022, I have had a slightly increased interest in trying to step up my cooking game. So what you are about to see are some of my food items I have prepared. Each meal will have stories provided including things I learned preparing these meals.

Cheese Sandwiches - Toaster Oven and Air Fryer
Boring as they may be, when you haven't prepared any kind of special meal and want to start making your first, a cheese sandwich is a good start. Now you may be wondering, why don't I call it a GRILLED cheese sandwich? Well, this isn't a grilled sandwich, plain and simple. This was my first time preparing a meal in a toaster oven air fryer. I made two sandwiches- one a basic cheese sandwich, and another I chopped up pieces of shrimp left over from a shrimp boil my family had on Christmas 2021. I seasoned both sandwiches with garlic powder and some Parmesan cheese. Once you see the picture, the right side one looks wilted because I had trouble flipping over the sandwich. Check this out:
TIME AND TEMPERATURE: Heat in toaster oven for 10 minutes at 400°F/204°C. Flip halfway.

Later, I made my first cheese sandwich in an air fryer. In a sense, I felt an air fryer was something I felt more comfortable with using more than a toaster oven. The process seemed easier. Really, this made me prepare more meals in an air fryer after this. Here is my air fryer cheese sandwich:
TIME AND TEMPERATURE: Heat in air fryer at 400°F/204°C for 8 minutes. Flip halfway.

Tuna Melt - Air Fryer
Next, I wanted to try a tuna melt after I saw a recipe on YouTube. I took a pack of tuna and then spread it onto some sliced bread. Then, I put on a slice of cheese, some pickles (bread and butter), and shredded cheese. The sandwich was pretty good from my experience making it. Take a look:
TIME AND TEMPERATURE: Heat in air fryer at 400°F/204°C for 5 minutes.
Fried Fish Fillet - Air Fryer
Here in the Houston-Galveston area, we have a popular chain of restaurants called Luby's. One of the most popular meals from Luby's is their fried fish. H-E-B stores exclusively sell these fried fish fillets. I tried to prepare these in an air fryer, and they came out VERY crispy and tasty.

Crab Cakes and Crab Cake Burgers - Air Fryer
Crab cakes was something I always wanted to eat and prepare. So when I picked up some Dockside crab cakes, I wanted to make some burgers with crab cakes. As you could tell, most of my meals have been seafood. This is a chance to make a meal I like but make burgers with them. I used toasted Brioche buns (in the air fryer) and applied a slice of cheese. I seasoned them with some Dash Garlic and Herb seasoning. Check it:
TIME AND TEMPERATURE: Heat at 380°F/193°C for 8 minutes.

Cheese Sticks - Air Fryer
Cheese sticks make for a great meal for kids and a great appetizer for adults. From a pack of Farm Rich Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, I put in a bunch of cheese sticks to prepare. They come out crispy and gooey with the cheese.
TIME AND TEMPERATURE: Put in at least six (I used eight) cheese sticks into the air fryer basket. Heat at 400°F for 7 or 8 minutes.

Hamburger - Air Fryer
By far my biggest project was to attempt making an air fryer hamburger. I long considered making one. I had the chance to finally make one, and my goodness, it came out great! I used Brioche buns, Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Herb sauce, sliced cheese, some salad mix lettuce, and a special weapon- Garlic Butter seasoning from Sweet Smokie Joe. This was going to be a bit complicated a process. Despite it all, though, I was pretty happy with the process. Take a look and follow the TIME AND TEMPERATURE notes:
TIME AND TEMPERATURE: Heat burger patty at 400°F/204°C for 14 minutes (season the patty beforehand if you like). Flip halfway (you may season further if you like). (OPTIONAL) Butter the insides of the hamburger buns, then toast the hamburger buns at 400°F/204°C for two minutes. Assemble sandwich as you choose.

That is all for now! If/When I prepare more meals, you will see them here and maybe in blog posts on my "John's Creative Space" blog.
